FAQ list
- What is chiropractic care?
- Chiropractic is a regulated healthcare profession that focuses on diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal conditions — particularly those involving the spine — using conservative, non-surgical methods. Chiropractors use hands-on techniques such as spinal manipulation, joint mobilisation, soft tissue therapy, and patient education to reduce pain, restore movement, and support the body's natural ability to heal.
- Is chiropractic care safe?
- Yes. Chiropractic care is widely recognised as one of the safest forms of healthcare for musculoskeletal conditions. Dr Aasiah conducts a thorough assessment before every treatment to ensure the appropriate techniques are used. She is trained to modify or avoid certain techniques based on your age, health history, and condition. As with any healthcare intervention, rare side effects can occur — these are usually minor (such as temporary soreness) and resolve within 24–48 hours.
- What conditions can a chiropractor treat?
- Chiropractors treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including: lower back pain, neck pain and stiffness, headaches and migraines (cervicogenic), shoulder, elbow, and wrist pain, hip, knee, and ankle pain, sports injuries and muscle strains, sciatica and nerve-related pain, postural problems from desk work, pregnancy-related back and pelvic pain, and colic and feeding difficulties in infants.
- Do I need a referral from a doctor?
- No. In South Africa, chiropractors are primary healthcare practitioners, which means you can book directly without a GP referral. You are welcome to bring any relevant medical records, X-rays, or scan results to your appointment — they can be very useful — but they are not required.
- Can children receive chiropractic treatment?
- Yes. Chiropractic care is safe and effective for patients of all ages, including newborns and infants. Techniques used for children are much gentler than those used for adults — often using only the pressure of a fingertip. Common reasons parents bring children include colic, difficulty breastfeeding, recurrent ear infections, postural concerns, and sports injuries.
- Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?
- Yes, and it is often very beneficial. Many women experience back, pelvic, and hip pain during pregnancy due to postural changes and hormonal effects on ligaments. Dr Aasiah is trained to provide safe, effective chiropractic care throughout all trimesters using adapted techniques and positioning. She can also assess and treat pelvic alignment, which may support an easier labour.
- Do I need to bring anything to my appointment?
- If available, please bring any relevant medical records, imaging (X-rays, MRI, CT scans), or referral letters. Wear or bring comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows access to the area being treated.
